The Influence of Reading Books in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray...

In this society, it is important to read a book for own knowledge. However, in novel, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, people are not allowed to read any book nor have any desires to read. They do not know the importance of the book. However, in this novel, three people influence Montag that human should read books and allows him to realize how important it is to do so. Clarisse is one of the characters who influenced Montag by showing her own world. Clarisse remind Montag the fireman’s real job. Clarisse said ‘†strange. I heard once that a long time ago houses used to burn by accident and they needed firemen to stop the flames†Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ (pg 8). Clarisse is the one of character who read a book in conflict read society. She confused Montag on†¦show more content†¦Clarisse talks about her class mates who never ask questions to their teacher. This story makes Montag think about what education is. Among all the people who influenced Montag, the old woman is the one who influence the most about books. The old woman said to Montag ‘†Snap out of it! The people in those books never lived. Come on now!’’’ (pg 38). The old woman impresses Montag with her passion. Also, through her, Montag gets confused on the truth of the society. She cannot leave her books, therefore â€Å"The woman on the porch reached out with contempt to them all and struck the kitchen match against railing† (pg 40). Through the old woman’s action, Montag decides to read a book himself. She had to influence him the most by doing this. †Ã¢â‚¬â„¢so it was the hand that started it all†¦ his hands had been infected, and soon it would be his arms†¦ his hands were ravenous.’† Montag portrays his action and he thinks that it was the action, but he had to do it over the curiosity about book. He felt he is the last on to read a book. Faber is an English professor who encourages Montag to start reading books. Faber mention â€Å"’Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality’† (pg 83). Faber tells Montag that books are important because they have quality. He helps Montag to read and to understand why books are important. Also, Faber believe ‘†we do need knowledge†¦ The books are to remind us what asses and fools we are’† (pg 86).
